Summary The protein encoded by this gene is a transcription factor that binds the consensus sequence 5'-GCCNNNGGC-3'. The encoded protein functions as either a homodimer or as a heterodimer with similar family members. This protein activates the transcription of some genes while inhibiting the transcription of others. Defects in this gene are a cause of branchiooculofacial syndrome (BOFS). Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.provided by RefSeq, Dec 2009

A Functional Variant Associated with Atrial Fibrillation Regulates PITX2c Expression through TFAP2a
Ye, Tucker, Weng et al
Am. J. Hum. Genet. (2016) 99 (6), 1281-1291 DOI: 10.1016/j.ajhg.2016.10.001
AI Summary: OriGene’s purified TFAP2a protein was used in binding assays to investigate how the transcription factor interacts with regulatory DNA sequences near the PITX2c gene, helping to elucidate the molecular mechanism by which the AF-associated SNP rs2595104 affects gene expression.
Snippet: Pierce). In brief, the double-stranded probes (20 fmol) were incubated withpurified TFAP2a (Origene) at room temperature for 20 min in the presence of 100 mMTris (pH 7.5), 500 mM KCl, and 10 mM DTT in a 20 L reaction. ... Cite SaveSaving
