Regulatory T Cells (Tregs)

Regulatory T cells (Tregs) are lymphocytes that control the biological phenomenon of self-non-self-discrimination. They are the key regulators of immune response and play a critical role in immune tolerance and homeostasis. Naturally occurring CD4+CD25+ are essential in preventing autoimmune diseases. Regulator CD4+ T cells express CD25 which suppresses T cell proliferation. In addition to providing autoimmunity, it may enable tumor cells to evade the host immune response. Hence, error in the Treg-mediated robust immunosuppression often results in autoimmune diseases.

The master controller of Treg activity is the forkhead transcription factor FOXP3. Studies have proven that FOXP is explicitly expressed in CD4+CD25+ and is needed for their development. Treg identification is usually achieved with multiple antibodies as activated T cells also upregulate CD25 T cells during the immune response associated with infection. OriGene gives you a pre-selected antibody panel for Treg marker identification.
