Summary This gene encodes the peptide hormone gastrin, which stimulates gastric acid secretion, proliferation, cell migration and angiogenesis, as well as inhibits apoptosis. The encoded preproprotein undergoes proteolytic processing to generate multiple gastrin peptides differing in size.
