Summary This gene encodes a preproprotein that is proteolytically cleaved to yield a signal peptide and a proproptein that is subsequently processed to generate the active mature peptide. The encoded protein is a lysosomal enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of terminal beta-D-galactose residues in various substrates like lactose, ganglioside GM1 and other glycoproteins. Mutations in the human gene are associated with GM1-gangliosidosis and Morquio B syndrome. Disruption of the mouse gene mirrors the symptoms of human gangliosidosis. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. provided by RefSeq, Dec 2013

AI Summary: OriGene’s recombinant murine β-GAL (product TP509735) was used to generate a calibration curve for enzymatic activity assays in the study, enabling accurate measurement of β-GAL activity in gene therapy experiments for mucopolysaccharidosis type IVB.
Snippet: CM untransduced and transduced (LV-Glb1 WT, LV-Glb1 C2C12, and LV-GLB1) HEK293T cells, a calibration curve was built upon testing the enzymatic activity of serial dilutions of a 10 μL solution containing known concentration of recombinant human (rh) (Biotechne, 6464-GH) or murine (rm) (Origene, TP509735) β-GAL. …
Preclinical development of hematopoietic stem cell-gene therapy for Mucopolysaccharidosis type IVB using a GLB1 transgene with enhanced therapeutic potential
Crippa, Alberti, Passerini et al
Thesis (2024)
Snippet: HEK293T cells, a calibration curve was built upon testing the enzymatic activity of serial dilutions of a 10 μL solution containing known concentration of recombinant human (rh) (Biotechne, 6464-GH) or murine (rm) (Origene, TP509735) β-GAL. A logarithmic trendline best fitted results of rm β-GAL activity, while linear correlation best fitted rh β-GAL up to 350 nmol/mg/h. …
