Summary DEAD box proteins, characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD), are putative RNA helicases. They are implicated in a number of cellular processes involving alteration of RNA secondary structure such as translation initiation, nuclear and mitochondrial splicing, and ribosome and spliceosome assembly. Based on their distribution patterns, some members of this family are believed to be involved in embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cellular growth and division. This gene encodes a DEAD box protein of unknown function. It shows high transcription levels in 2 retinoblastoma cell lines and in tissues of neuroectodermal origin. provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008

A HIV-1 Tat mutant protein disrupts HIV-1 Rev function by targeting the DEAD-box RNA helicase DDX1
Lin, Sivakumaran, Jones et al
Retrovirology (2014) 11 (1), 121 DOI: 10.1186/PREACCEPT-7500780551442434
AI Summary: OriGene’s recombinant DDX1 and DDX3 proteins were used in this study to investigate and confirm the direct interaction between the HIV-1 Tat mutant Nullbasic and the cellular helicase DDX1, elucidating how Nullbasic disrupts HIV-1 Rev function.
Snippet: Recombinant proteins Recombinant DDX1 and DDX3 proteins were purchased from OriGene. The recombinant Nullbasic- FLAG-V5-6xHis was produced in E. coli strain BL21-AI (Invitrogen) transformed by pDEST42-Nullbasic-FLAG. A 200 ml culture was grown in Luria broth to log phase and induced with 0.2% arabinose and 1 mM IPTG
