Summary This gene encodes a member of the serine/threonine phosphatase family. The encoded protein promotes apoptosis by dephosphorylating and inactivating the serine/threonine kinase Akt, and functions as a tumor suppressor in multiple types of cancer. Increased expression of this gene may also play a role in obesity and type 2 diabetes by interfering with Akt-mediated insulin signaling. provided by RefSeq, Dec 2011

Discovery of a snail hibernation-inducer offering hibernation-like cardioprotection through metabolic rewiring and autophagy in mice
Piao, Zhang, Zhao et al
Nat Commun (2026)

AI Summary: OriGene’s human recombinant PHLPP1 protein (catalog number TP303930) was used in enzymatic assays to study the role of PHLPP1 in dephosphorylating AKT, helping elucidate the mechanism by which the snail-derived SNAP compound induces metabolic dormancy and cardioprotection.
Snippet: … The enzymatic reaction was carried out at 37°C for 2 hours in a reaction mixture containing 0.02 mg/ml BSA, 100 mM NaCl, 0.4 mM Mn²⁺, and 100 mM tricine (pH 7.4). For the reaction, 1.5 µM mouse fibroblast lysates, or 1.5 µM immunoprecipitated PHLPP1 from stressed mouse fibroblast lysates, or 1.5 µM human recombinant PHLPP1 (OriGene Technologies, TP303930) were utilized, along with 300 µM of the substrate. …
An inducer of snail hibernation causes quiescence and hibernation-like cardioprotection, through metabolic rewiring and autophagy, in mice hearts
