UniProt ID Q80X41
Summary Serine/threonine kinase involved in Golgi disassembly during the cell cycle: following phosphorylation by PLK3 during mitosis, required to induce Golgi fragmentation. Acts by mediating phosphorylation of downstream target protein. Phosphorylates 'Thr-18' of p53/TP53 and may thereby prevent the interaction between p53/TP53 and MDM2. Phosphorylates casein and histone H3. Phosphorylates BANF1: disrupts its ability to bind DNA, reduces its binding to LEM domain-containing proteins and causes its relocalization from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. Phosphorylates ATF2 which activates its transcriptional activity (By similarity).UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot Function

AI Summary: OriGene’s pCMV6-myc-Flag-Sox2 plasmid was used in this study to express Sox2 and investigate its regulatory role and cooperation with VRK1 in cell cycle progression and differentiation.
Snippet: Human CCND1 gene promoter was studied with pA3-CyclinD1-Luc (wt −1745 + 134)59. Plasmids expressing macroH2A1.1 macroH2A1.2 and macroH2A2 were from M. Buschbeck43. Sox2: pCMV6-myc-Flag-Sox2 (Origene;Rockville, MD) or pBabe-Sox2. Sox4: pCDNA3.1-Sox4, pCDNA3.1-Sox4(S395X), and pCDNA3.1-Sox4(A350P)60
