Summary Isoform Mitochondrial binds to the mitochondrial light strand promoter and functions in mitochondrial transcription regulation. Required for accurate and efficient promoter recognition by the mitochondrial RNA polymerase. Promotes transcription initiation from the HSP1 and the light strand promoter by binding immediately upstream of transcriptional start sites. Is able to unwind DNA. Bends the mitochondrial light strand promoter DNA into a U-turn shape via its HMG boxes. Required for maintenance of normal levels of mitochondrial DNA. May play a role in organizing and compacting mitochondrial DNA. Isoform Nuclear may also function as a transcriptional activator or may have a structural role in the compaction of nuclear DNA during spermatogenesis.UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot Function

Down-regulation of TFAM increases the sensitivity of tumour cells to radiation via p53/TIGAR signalling pathway
Jiang, Wang
J. Cell. Mol. Med. (2019) 23 (7), 4545-4558 DOI: 10.1111/jcmm.14350
AI Summary: In this study, OriGene products—specifically TFAM shRNA and TIGAR siRNA—were used to knock down the expression of TFAM and TIGAR in tumour cells, enabling the investigation of their roles in regulating cell sensitivity to radiation via the p53/TIGAR signalling pathway.
Snippet: USA). DNA primers were synthesized by General Biosystems (Chuzhou, China). TFAM shRNA and TIGAR siRNA were purchased from OriGene (Rockville, MD, USA). 2.3 | Transfection of shRNA plasmids and siRNA shRNA
Cyclooxygenase-2-Mediated Up-Regulation of Mitochondrial Transcription Factor A Mitigates the Radio-Sensitivity of Cancer Cells
Tang, Zhang, Wang
Int J Mol Sci (2019) 20 (5) DOI: 10.3390/ijms20051218
AI Summary: OriGene contributed to this study by providing human TFAM shRNA (shTFAM) constructs, which were used to stably knock down TFAM expression in cancer cells to investigate its role in radio-sensitivity.
Snippet: 4.6. RNA Interference. Human TFAM shRNA (shTFAM) constructs were purchased from OriGene (Rockville, MD, USA). Cells with stable knockdown of TFAM were isolated by transfecting the shTFAM construct and then performing selection under the presence of puromycin Cached
