Background Apraglutide is a long-acting synthetic analog of glucagon-like peptide-2 (GLP-2), designed to treat intestinal disorders such as Short Bowel Syndrome with Intestinal Failure (SBS-IF) and gastrointestinal Graft-versus-Host Disease (GVHD). It works by activating GLP-2 receptors in the gut, promoting intestinal growth, enhancing nutrient and fluid absorption, and improving gut barrier integrity, with the added benefit of a longer half-life allowing for once-weekly subcutaneous dosing. Clinical trials have shown promising results in reducing dependence on parenteral nutrition and improving quality of life for patients with SBS2.
