Gene Name bone marrow stromal cell antigen 2
Background BST2, also known as CD317, HM1.24 antigen, DAMP-2 and recently designated tetherin, is an integral membrane protein with a novel topology. The specific function of the BST2, encoded by the bone marrow stromal cell antigen 2 gene, is undetermined; however, it may play a role in pre-B-cell growth, rheumatoid arthritis, and in antiretroviral defense, that blocks release of retrovirus from the cell surface. BST2 is highly expressed during B-cell development, from pro-B precursors to plasma cells, T-cells, monocytes, Nk cells and DCs (at protein level).
Synonyms CD317; TETHERIN
Note BST2 is a 180 amino acid protein with an observed molecular weight of approximately 30 kDa in western blotting (see Ishikawa et all, 1995 PMID 7607676). FLOW application of this product is reported by Crother et al 2011 PMID 21695198.
