Summary This gene encodes a transmembrane protein that functions in copper transport across membranes. This protein is localized to the trans Golgi network, where it is predicted to supply copper to copper-dependent enzymes in the secretory pathway. It relocalizes to the plasma membrane under conditions of elevated extracellular copper, and functions in the efflux of copper from cells. Mutations in this gene are associated with Menkes disease, X-linked distal spinal muscular atrophy, and occipital horn syndrome. Alternatively-spliced transcript variants have been observed. provided by RefSeq, Aug 2013
shRNA Design These shRNA constructs were designed against multiple splice variants at this gene locus. To be certain that your variant of interest is targeted, please contact techsupport@origene.com. If you need a special design or shRNA sequence, please utilize our custom shRNA service.

A role for the ATP7A copper-transporting ATPase in macrophage bactericidal activity
White, Lee, Kambe et al
J Biol Chem (2009) 284 (49), 33949-56 DOI: 10.1074/jbc.M109.070201
AI Summary: OriGene products contributed to this study by providing the mouse ATP7A shRNA plasmid (Cat# TG502227) used for silencing ATP7A expression in macrophages, enabling the authors to investigate the role of ATP7A in macrophage bactericidal activity.
Copper transport into the secretory pathway is regulated by oxygen in macrophages

AI Summary: OriGene products contributed to this study by providing the mouse ATP7A cDNA (OriGene, MC203526) and mouse ATP7A shRNA (OriGene, TL502431), which were used to manipulate ATP7A expression and investigate its role in copper transport under hypoxic conditions in macrophages.
Cell-specific ATP7A transport sustains copper-dependent tyrosinase activity in melanosomes
Setty, Tenza, Sviderskaya et al
Nature (2008) 454 (7208), 1142-6 DOI: 10.1038/nature07163
Cited by 270
AI Summary: In this study, OriGene products such as the ATP7A Myc-DDK-tagged cDNA clone and ATP7A shRNA lentiviral particles were used to manipulate ATP7A expression in melanocytes, enabling the authors to investigate the role of ATP7A in copper delivery to melanosomes and its impact on tyrosinase activity and melanin synthesis.
