Background Semaglutide is a therapeutically effective analog of Glucagon-like Peptide-1 (GLP-1), modified with a side chain. GLP-1 is an incretin hormone that plays a crucial role in glycemic control and body weight regulation, making it particularly relevant for treating Type-II Diabetes (T2D) and obesity. Released by the small intestine in response to food intake, GLP1 reduces hunger, signals fullness, stimulates insulin secretion, and inhibits glucagon release, thereby maintaining glucose levels. Semaglutide is marketed under the brand names OzempicĀ® and RybelsusĀ® for diabetes management, and as WegovyĀ® for weight loss.
