The encoded transmembrane proteintransports acetylcholine into secretory vesicle for release into the extracellular space. Acetylcholine (Ach)transport utilizes a proton gradient established by a vacuolar ATPase. This gene is located within the firstintron of the choline acetyltransferase gene.
