• Specificity: This monoclonal antibody 5A6 specifically reacts with the 85 kD beta-chain of LRP/alpha2MR which is expressed in a restricted spectrum of cell types (for a recent review cf. Herz & Strickland). A strong immunohistochemical reaction is seen in hepatocytes, tissue macrophages, subsets of neurones and astrocytes in the central nervous system, fibroblasts, smooth muscle cells, and monocyte-derived foam cells in atherosclerotic lesions in the arterial wall. ; The antibody can also be used for the characterization of a subset of myelomonocytic subtypes of chronic and acute leukemia (CD 91).; Cross-reacts with rabbit LDL receptor-related protein (LRP) or mouse LRP.
