HEK293T cells were transfected with the pCMV6-ENTRY control (Left lane) or pCMV6-ENTRY CD163 (RC208557, Right lane) cDNA for 48 hrs and lysed. Equivalent amounts of cell lysates (5 ug per lane) were separated by SDS-PAGE and immunoblotted with anti-CD163. Positive lysates LY401362 (100ug) and LC401362 (20ug) can be purchased separately from OriGene.

  Immunofluorescent staining of 293T cells transiently transfected by pCMV6-ENTRY CD163 (RC208557}) using anti-CD163 mouse monoclonal antibody (TA506392, green, upper left; merged, upper right) or empty vector control plasmid ( merged, lower right). Cell nuclei were stained with DAPI (blue, lower left) (1:100).

• Background: The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the scavenger receptor cysteine-rich (SRCR) superfamily, and is exclusively expressed in monocytes and macrophages. It functions as an acute phase-regulated receptor involved in the clearance and endocytosis of hemoglobin/haptoglobin complexes by macrophages, and may thereby protect tissues from free hemoglobin-mediated oxidative damage. This protein may also function as an innate immune sensor for bacteria and inducer of local inflammation.
