Immunogen Chickens were immunized with a recombinant fragment of the human prion protein emulsified with Freund’s complete and incomplete adjuvants. After multiple injections, eggs were collected from the hens, and IgY fractions were prepared from the yolks. Affinity-purified antibodies were then prepared using an agarose column to which the recombinant protein fragments were covalently attached. Finally, affinity purified antibodies (50 ug/ml final concentration) were mixed with the IgY fraction (10 mg/ml final concentration) in a mixture containing glycerol (50% v/v) (to prevent freezing at -20°C) and 0.02% Sodium Azide.
Formulation 0.9% (w/v) Sodium Phosphate (10 mM, pH 7.2) buffered isotonic saline, 50% (v/v) Glycerol, with  0.02% (w/v) Sodium Azide as an anti-microbial agent
State: Purified
State: Mixture of IgY fraction (10 mg/ml) and affinity-purified antibodies (50 µg/ml)

Background Prion protein is the protein responsible for human Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), and somatic mutations of the prion gene are responsible for Gerstmann-Straussler-Scheinker disease and Fatal Familial Insomnia. The bovine homolog of the prion protein is responsible for bovine Spongioform Encephalopathy (BSE), also known as "Mad Cow Disease." In all cases, the prion protein has two folding states, with one state being the "normal" non-pathological form, and the other state inducing a spongioform encephalopathy.
Synonyms Major prion protein, PrP27-30, PrP33-35C, ASCR, PRNP, PRIP
