Background trazine is a herbicide against pre- and post-emergence broadleaf and grassy weeds. It is a very persistent compound and it has been banned in the EU since 2004. Its main toxic effect is as endocrine disruptor.  Atrazine is a widely used herbicide. Its use is controversial due to its effects on non-target species, such as on amphibians.
