Background | The TRPM7 (Transient Receptor Protein-PhosphoLipase C-Interacting Kinase) protein is a member of the ion channel proteins. It regulates the calcium concentration in cells, which is imperative for such functions as muscle contractions and neuronal firing. TRPM7, however, is unique among the TRP channel proteins because it is bi-functional. It not only controls ion channels but it also acts as a kinase, phosphorylating proteins. |
