The protein encoded by this gene is a plasma membrane protein that is important in spermatogenesis, embryo implantation, neural network formation, and tumor progression. The encoded protein is also a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.

HEK293T cells were transfected with the pCMV6-ENTRY control (Left lane) or pCMV6-ENTRY BSG (RC219464, Right lane) cDNA for 48 hrs and lysed. Equivalent amounts of cell lysates (5 ug per lane) were separated by SDS-PAGE and immunoblotted with anti-BSG.
HEK293T cells transfected with either RC219464 overexpress plasmid(Red) or empty vector control plasmid(Blue) were immunostained by anti-BSG antibody(TA501164), and then analyzed by flow cytometry.
