Exportin 4 is a novel member of the importin-beta family that was shown to transport the eukaryotic translation initiation factor 5A (eIF-5A) to the cytoplasm via recognition of a complex nuclear export signal (1,2). Exportin 4 was identified as an interaction partner of Sox2 in mouse ES cells and neural progenitors and show that it also serves as a bona fide nuclear import receptor for Sox2 and SRY (3).
