The low density lipoprotein receptor-related protein-associated protein 1 (LRPAP1/RAP) is an antagonist and molecular chaperone protein that binds tightly to low-density lipoprotein receptor family members and thereby prevents the binding of all known ligands, including alpha 2-macroglobulin and chylomicron remnants. LRPAP1 is present on the cell surface where it is an effective inhibitor of ligand binding to the kidney glycoprotein 330 (gp330), but is most abundant in the endoplasmic reticulum lumen and may function in receptor folding and/or trafficking (1-3).
