Cyclin dependent kinase 5 (CdK5) is a member of the cyclin-dependent kinase family of serine/threonine kinases. CDK5 is most abundant in neuronal and muscle cells contain the highest amount of this protein. Cdk5 is not activated by cyclins, but by the p35 protein, which is expressed solely in the brain. Cdk5 interacts with D1 and D3 type G1 cyclins and can phosphorylate histone H1, TAU, MAP2 and NF-H and NF-M. Cdk5 activity is involved in terminal differentiation of neurons and muscle cells.

HEK293T cells were transfected with the pCMV6-XL5 control or pCMV-CDK5 (SC117039) cDNA for 72 hrs and lysed. Equivalent amounts of cell lysates (5 ug per lane) were separated by SDS-PAGE and immunoblotted with anti-CDK5 Rabbit polyclonal Ab. The size markers are shown in numbers and the correct 33kDa CDK5 protein is indicated by an arrow.
