| Background | CDC25A recognizes a 65kD protein In the cell cycle of eukaryotes the M phase is initiated by maturation promoting factor (MPF), a protein kinase complex consisting of p34 cdc2, cyclin B, and p13. The activity of this complex is controlled by multiple levels of phosphorylation and dephosphorylation of the catalytic p34cdc2 component. CDC25A and CDC25B arep34cdc2 tyrosine phosphates. Dephosphorylation of p34cdc2 by these CDC25 proteins activates the MPF complex, initiating mitosis. Although expressed throughout the cell cycle, peak expression of CDC25A is in G1 of the cell cycle. |
