Specificity Recognizes a conserved determinant of the p53 protein. Its epitope maps near the C-terminus end (aa 370-378) of p53. It has been used successfully to immunoprecipitate p53 oncoprotein complexes with simian virus 40 (SV40) large T antigen. Reportedly, this antibody precipitated the most ATPase-active form of T.p53 is a tumor suppressor gene expressed in a wide variety of tissue types and is involved in regulating cell growth, replication, and apoptosis. It binds to MDM2, SV40 T antigen and human papilloma virus E6 protein. Mutations involving p53 are found in a wide variety of malignant tumors, including breast, ovarian, bladder, colon, lung, and melanoma.
