ZNF217 is a Krüppel-like zinc finger protein that localizes to the nucleus and interacts with co-repressors and histone modifying proteins, suggesting that ZNF217 may be part of a transcriptional repressor complex. ZNF217 functions in apoptosis by attenuating apoptotic signals resulting from doxorubicin-induced DNA damage or from functionally compromised telomeres (1). It is implicated as a human oncoprotein based on its role in carcinogenesis (2). In particular, ZNF217 regulates ErbB3 expression in breast cancer (3).
