Background	Chx10 is a homeobox protein originally described as a retina-specific transcription factor (1). It is required for retinal progenitor cell proliferation early in retinogenesis and subsequently for bipolar neuron differentiation (2). Mutations in Chx10 are associated with microphthalmia, cataracts and iris abnormalities (1).
