|Telomeric repeat-binding factor 2 (TRF2) is a component of the shelterin complex (telosome) that is involved in the regulation of telomere length and protection (1). Shelterin associates with arrays of double-stranded TTAGGG repeats added by telomerase and protects chromosome ends; without its protection, telomeres are no longer hidden from DNA damage surveillance and chromosome ends are inappropriately processed by DNA repair pathways (1). TRF2 and TRF1, along with their interaction partners, reorganize the chromosome end into a T-loop, a protected structure, to hide the end of the chromosome (2). TRF2 can also recruit RAP1 to telomeres in order to inhibit non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) (3). In addition, TRF2 is ubiquitously expressed with high expression in the spleen, thymus, and colon (1).|
