FunctionMonocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) is a member of the chemokine-beta family of cytokines. The protein is structurally related to the CXC subfamily of cytokines. Members of this subfamily are characterized by two cysteines separated by a single amino acid. This cytokine displays chemotactic activity for monocytes and basophils but not for neutrophils or eosinophils. It has been implicated in the pathogenesis of diseases characterized by monocytic infiltrates, like psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis and atherosclerosis. It binds to chemokine receptors CCR2 and CCR4. It may play a inprotant role in the initiation and/or progression of pulmonary hypertension (PH). Blockade of a systemic MCP-1 signal pathway in vivo may prevent PH.

HEK293T cells were transfected with the pCMV6-ENTRY control (Left lane) or pCMV6-ENTRY CCL2 (RC202180, Right lane) cDNA for 48 hrs and lysed. Equivalent amounts of cell lysates (5 ug per lane) were separated by SDS-PAGE and immunoblotted with anti-CCL2.

Immunohistochemistry: MCP1 Antibody - Strong cytoplasmic positivity with additional staining of luminal membranes was seen in mucus-producing cells of the gastro-intestinal tract. Cells of the CNS and lymphoid tissues were in general negative, except for mast cells, which were strongly positive. In malignant tissues, mucin secreting colo-rectal carcinomas and mucinous cystadenocarcinomas of ovary exhibited strong cytoplasmic staining with additional positivity of luminal membranes. Few other adenocarcinomas were strongly stained in cytoplasm. Malignant gliomas, lymphomas and renal cancers were mainly negative. Image and statement courtesy of the Human Protein Atlas (HPA).
