The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the 'regulator of G protein signaling' family. It inhibits signal transduction by increasing the GTPase activity of G protein alpha subunits. It also may play a role in regulating the kinetics of signaling in the phototransduction cascade. [provided by RefSeq].

HEK293T cells were transfected with the pCMV6-ENTRY control (Left lane) or pCMV6-ENTRY RGS16 (RC202430, Right lane) cDNA for 48 hrs and lysed. Equivalent amounts of cell lysates (5 ug per lane) were separated by SDS-PAGE and immunoblotted with anti-RGS16.
HEK293T cells transfected with either RC202430 overexpress plasmid(Red) or empty vector control plasmid(Blue) were immunostained by anti-RGS16 antibody(TA503946), and then analyzed by flow cytometry.
