BackgroundWIPI1 is a member of WIPI subfamily of WD40 repeat proteins, and has a 7-bladed propeller structure and contain a conserved motif for interaction with phospholipids (1). WIPI1 plays a role in autophagy. It regulates the trafficking of proteins involved in the mannose-6-phosphate receptor (MPR) recycling pathway (2).
