MEK itself is activated via phosphorylation at serines 217/218 and 221/222 by upstream activator kinases, including c-raf, mos and MEK kinase (3,4). p21-activated kinases (Paks) regulate MEK-1 activity, by phosphorylating proteins at Ser(298). Mek1 S298 phosphorylation is necessary for efficient activation of MEK1 and subsequent MAPK activation (5).|
