|Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) is derived from the transcription product of the proglucagon gene. The major source of GLP-1 in the body is the intestinal L cell that secretes GLP-1 as a gut hormone. The biologically active forms of GLP-1 are: GLP-1-(7-37) and GLP-1-(7-36)NH2. GLP-1 stimulates glucose-dependent insulin secretion and insulin biosynthesis, inhibits glucagon secretion and gastric emptying, and inhibits food intake. The majority of circulating biologically active GLP-1 is found in GLP-1 (7-36, amide), with lesser amounts of bioactive GLP-1 (7-37) form also detectable (1). GLP-1 is inactivated by N-terminal degradation of the peptide by Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 (DPP-4)-mediated cleavage at position 2, alanine. Application: ELISA and IHC. Optimal dilutions/concentrations should be determined by the end user.|
