Function	Neurofilaments (NF) are cytoplasmic intermediate filaments (IFs) found in neurons. Neurofilament 66, also known as alpha-internexin, is a member of the IF family. Classified as a type IV IF, Neurofilament 66 is expressed by most neurons and has been shown to co-assemble with other NF triple proteins (light, medium and heavy NF) (1-2). In the adult brain, Neurofilament 66 is expressed at relatively low levels compared to other NF proteins (3). Neurofilament 66 has also been shown to assemble into 10mm diameter IF in vitro.
