Tumor necrosis factor receptor 1 (TNFR1) is a receptor for tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-?), a mulitifunctional proinflammatory cytokine. Produced in activated monocytes, TNF-? has effects on lipid metabolism, coagulation, insulin resistance, and endothelial function (1). TNFR1 is activated by binding to TNF- ? or homotrimeric lymphotoxin-?, which leads to recruitment of caspase 8 to the activated receptor by FADD. This formation of death inducing signaling complex (DISC) lead to caspase 8 proteolytic activation and cascade of caspases mediating apoptosis (2).
