SRP19 is an RNA-binding component of the Signal recognition particle (SRP), consisting of a 7S RNA molecule of 300 nucleotides and six protein subunits (SRP72, SRP68, SRP54, SRP19, SRP14, and SRP9), and it plays a role in the assembly of SRP (1, 2). It interacts with the major groove of the helix 6 tetraloop and the minor groove of the helix 8 tetraloop, and it clamps the tetraloops of two branched helices in the S-domain of SRP RNA (1). SRP19 is also directly bound and efficiently imported into the nuclei in vitro by two members of the importin beta family of transport receptors, importin 8 and transportin (3).
