BackgroundORP1 is a member of the oxysterol-binding protein (OSBP) family, a group of intracellular lipid receptors. Most members contain an N-terminal pleckstrin homology domain and a highly conserved C-terminal OSBP-like sterol-binding domain, although some members contain only the sterol-binding domain (1). ORP1 binds phospholipids; exhibits strong binding to phosphatidic acid and weak binding to phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate. Three ORP1 isoforms have been reported (isoform A: 50 kDa, isoform B: 108 kDa, isoform C: 106 kDa) (2).
