Metadherin is a potentially crucial mediator of tumor malignancy and a key factor of oncogenic signaling pathways (1). Elevated levels have been observed in some human tumor types, such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, neuroblastoma, esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) (2). Metadherin promotes anchorage-independent growth of immortalized melanocytes and astrocytes, which is a key component in tumor cell expansion (3). Several signaling pathways have been found to be associated with the expression of Metadherin, including Ha-ras, PI3K/Akt, NF-?B and Wnt/ß-catenin. (2).
