Mnk1 (MAPK-interacting kinase 1) is a MAPK-regulated kinase in the CAMK Serine/Threonine protein kinase family that phosphorylates the initiation factor eIF4E (1, 2). Mnk1 is phosphorylated in response to type I IFNs in an Erk/MAPK-dependent manner (1). Furthermore, it is activated by the p38 kinases and kinases in the Erk pathway (2). Phosphorylation of Threonine 385 activates this kinase (2). Mnk1 may also play a role in the response to environmental stress and cytokines (2).
