Inositol polyphosphate 4-phosphatase (INPP4B) is an Mg2+ independent enzyme involved in phosphatidylinositol signaling pathways. INPP4B type II catalyses the hydrolysis of the 4-position phosphate from phosphatidylinositol 3,4-bisphosphate. 1,3,4-trisphosphate, and inositol 3,4-bisphosphate. This process rapidly generates two second messengers phosphatidylinositol 3,4-bisphosphate and phosphatidylinositol 3,4,5-trisphosphate in response to extracellular signal (1). INPP4B and its secondary messengers have been linked to cell growth, differentiation, apoptosis, protein trafficking, and cell motility (2). It is suggested that INPP4B type II might be subject to alternative splicing, similar to type I enzyme. However, additional factors and/or processing maybe required for alternative isozymes to be active (3).
