Reference Data

Target NameHomo sapiens heme oxygenase (decycling) 2 (HMOX2), transcript variant 3
Alternative NameHO-2
Database LinkNP_002125
Entrez Gene 3163 Human
FunctionHeme oxygenase, an essential enzyme in heme catabolism, cleaves heme to form biliverdin, which is subsequently converted to bilirubin by biliverdin reductase, and carbon monoxide, a putative neurotransmitter. Heme oxygenase activity is induced by its substrate heme and by various nonheme substances. Heme oxygenase occurs as 2 isozymes, an inducible heme oxygenase-1 and a constitutive heme oxygenase-2. HMOX1 and HMOX2 belong to the heme oxygenase family. Alternative splice variants encoding the same protein have been identified at this locus. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008].
Related PathwayTransmembrane Porphyrin and chlorophyll metabolism

HEK293T cells were transfected with the pCMV6-ENTRY control (Left lane) or pCMV6-ENTRY HMOX2 (RC201777, Right lane) cDNA for 48 hrs and lysed. Equivalent amounts of cell lysates (5 ug per lane) were separated by SDS-PAGE and immunoblotted with anti-HMOX2.
