BCAS2 (Breast carcinoma-amplified sequence 2), also known as pre-mRNA-splicing factor SPF27, is a ubiquitously expressed protein that was initially identified as overexpressed and amplified in breast cancer cell lines (1). It is a component of the spliceosome and is involved in mRNA splicing (1, 2). BCAS2 interacts with estrogen receptor (ER) beta, TR beta, PR, and PPAR gamma in a ligand-independent way (1). BCAS2 has been reported to be a transcriptional coactivator of estrogen receptor and a novel negative regulator of p53 (3). Thus, BCAS2 might play an important role in breast cancer development and potentially become a molecular target for cancer therapy (1).
