|Osteocalcin, a vitamin K-dependent protein, constitutes 1-2% of total bone protein, and it binds strongly to apatite and calcium (1, 2). Thus, Osteocalcin is involved in bone extracellular matrix mineralization and bone formation (2, 3). Moreover, it exists in serum as fully carboxylated or partially carboxylated forms and completely uncarboxylated. Uncarboxylated Osteocalcin promotes insulin secretion, insulin gene expression and insulin sensitivity (4). In addition, it acts as a hormone with a complex cross-talk between adipose tissue and the skeleton (3).|
